QR ordering without commission: how ordering systems charge
Two ordering systems can look alike on the table and cost very different amounts at the end of the month. The difference is how they charge: a share of what your guests spend, a fee per order, or a flat price.
Three ways to charge
A commission is a share of every order. It costs little in a quiet month and grows with every busy one, so the more the system works for you, the more you pay.
A fee per order is a fixed amount for each order, whatever is in it. It hurts most where orders are small and many: coffee, a drink at the bar, a second round.
A flat subscription is the same price every month, however much you sell. It costs more than a commission in a very quiet month and much less in a busy one.
What 0% commission doesn’t cover
Card payments cost money whoever takes them. When guests pay at the table, the payment provider charges its own fee for each card payment, under your agreement with them, exactly as it does on the card machine at the counter. A system with 0% commission takes nothing on top of that; it does not make card fees disappear.
Ask every provider two separate questions: what do you take from each order, and who charges the card fee, at what rate, into whose bank account?
How to compare two offers
Take a real month: your takings and the number of orders. Work out what each system would have charged you for that month: the share times the takings, the fee times the orders, or the flat price. Then do it again for your best month and your quietest one.
Add what is not in the headline: a set-up fee, hardware, a minimum term, and what happens to your menu and your printed codes if you leave.
Where GoRunny fits
GoRunny is a flat subscription with 0% commission: one plan with everything in it, the same price however many orders you take. Guests pay by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay into your own account with Stripe, Mollie, Unzer or SumUp, and that provider’s card fees apply under your agreement with them. There is no minimum term on the monthly plan, and the first month is free.
Questions
Does 0% commission mean there are no fees at all?
No. The card payment still costs the payment provider’s fee. 0% commission means the ordering system takes nothing from each order on top of that.
Is a flat subscription always cheaper than commission?
Not in every month. A commission can cost less in a very quiet month; a flat price costs less as soon as you are busy. Compare both on a real month of your own.
Where does the money from table payments go with GoRunny?
Into your own account with your payment provider: Stripe, Mollie, Unzer or SumUp.
